History
John P. and Mary Louise Gifford endowed a fund within the UC-Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 1983 to support the creation of a population studies center that began operating in 1998 under the leadership of Kay Dewey (Nutrition). Ted Bradshaw and Jonathan London (Human and Community Development) led the Gifford Center after 2005, and David Kyle (Sociology) served as executive director between 2009 and 2012.
Philip Martin (Agricultural and Resource Economics) led the Gifford Center from 2012 - 2017.
